The Vet's last baseball-to-football conversion, Sept. 27, 2002

Photos by Michael T. Regan

Jackhammers are used to break up the dirt around home plate.
Mike Dimuzio (left) helps pile broken dirt into the bull dozer. Mike is the director of facility management and has worked at the Vet from day one.
Former assistant stadium manager Ralph Frangipani has worked at the Vet since 1973. He now works part-time.
Mark Carfango smooths the surface of the dirt after the bulldozer has taken the rest away.
Excess dirt is washed away from first base before the carpet is rolled out.
Mike Walsh is one of the many wokers who sew the carpet down. He was part of the first conversion crew when the new turf was installed two years ago.
Walsh works with plyers, a large rounded needle, green string and scissors.
