Continuing their series of totally awesome cookbook dinners (past guests include out-of-town superstars like Joe Beef and Gramercy Tavern) tomorrow night Jeff Michaud and the Osteria (640 N. Broad St.) crew is welcoming Michael Hudman and Andy Ticer up from Memphis.
The duo are the masterminds behind Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen and Hog & Hominy, two Tennessee Southern meets Italian inspired spots as well as the authors of Collards & Carbonara: Southern Cooking, Italian Roots. A few tickets are still available for this five-course $125 dinner complete with wine pairings, plenty of pork and a copy of Collards & Carbonara to take home. Here's a look at the South Italy meets American South menu:

With a W and an SLS on the way and this exciting piece of news, it looks like Philadelphia's high end hotel shortage is going to become a thing of the past. Our pals over at Uwishunu are reporting that Kimpton has official plans for a third Philadelphia property at 1801 Vine Street aka the family court building. The historical landmark is going to be renovated into a 199 room hotel complete with spa, event space and most importantly, a sizable bar and restaurant area. Kimpton is planning on breaking ground late this year and opening the new hotel in 2016 or 2017.
Passyunk Post is reporting that South Street vegan spot Govinda's is taking over 1408 South Street and transforming it into a vegan pizzeria. Joining the ranks of Blackbird for dairy-free slice and pie options, Passyunk Post is speculating that renovations are going smoothly and that the shop (with bike delivery) should be up and running sometime within the next month.
Throwback Thursday isn't just for embarrassing high school pics anymore. Oyster House (1516 Sansom St.) is getting in on the hash tag game with a new series of Throwback Thursday specials and no, they don't involve last week's oysters. With 60 plus years in the Philly restaurant game, Oyster House owner Sam Mink is tapping into the Oyster House's recipe archives and featuring a vintage oyster preparation each Thursday beginning today.
First up on the roster is a pan roast, with oysters poached in a creamy tomato sauce served with a blackened shrimp butter crostini.
Ever wonder where Cheese Whiz comes from? Of course you do! Thanks to this video from Keith Garabedian and the Hot Diggity crew the mystery of shelf-stable cheese sauce is no longer a mystery. Watch Keith drop some Whiz science and history. Seriously, with videos like these (that dry erase board!), this guy has some serious Alton Brown potential.
First there was pizza and ice cream and then there was ramen and pizza, but this Thursday the stoner food trifecta is coming together at long last for Third Thursdee at Pizza Brain (2313 Frankford Ave.) from 6 to 9 p.m. The masterminds/mad scientists at Pizza Brain, Cheu Noodle Bar and Little Baby's Ice Cream have teamed up for an out-there/intriguing menu of slices and scoops that looks, well, totally amazing: Pork belly pizza with miso truffle aioli, black garlic glaze, pickled mustard greens and katsuobushi flakes and ramen-inspired ice cream with candied ramen noodle sprinkles. Anyway, this is a one time only thing so don't sleep.
