Queen of Sheba Pub II

4511 Baltimore Ave.
215-382-2099

Bar/Pub, West Philadelphia/University City

Queen of Sheba II is everything you want in a dive: amiable bartenders, cheap beer, tree-patterned wallpaper, lingering holiday decorations and X Games snowboarding on a seemingly out-of-place flat screen TV that hangs above the vodka shelf. A workingman’s bar, it’s filled with an easygoing crowd that minds its own business but is more than willing to strike up a conversation when sufficiently prodded. Twentysomethings in jeans swill pitchers of Bud in the muraled pool table room, while the older guys sit on a line of stools running down the counter. They sip from bottles and occasionally quip about the X Games. Good boozing requires good music and Sheba’s jukebox boasts a mixed-up roster of pop (50 Cent, Alicia Keys), vintage R&B and soul (Gladys Knight, Earth, Wind and Fire, Jackal the Bear, Stevie Wonder) and Ethiopian music. If you’ve got game, there’s a weekly pool tournament on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. — proof of which is displayed on the trophy shelf opposite the bar. Score.

The food was not that great as I expected it the lentils for one of the dishes was not throughly cooked. The service was not fast. Overall I would not recommend Queen of Sheba. I would advise to dine at an other Ethiopian restaurant.

Well, well, if you haven't been lately, Queen of Sheba has changed, it has been remodeled and they have this wonderful husband and wife team that is called TNT Productions that do KARAOKE every THURSDAY night at 8pm. We had so much fun. They have all kinds of music to choose from. He is a wonderful KJ and she is a wonderful hostess, they make you feel welcome. She introduces everyone as a "STAR" My friends and I love it, we have been going 3 weeks straight and it keeps getting better and bigger. We are going tonight, maybe I'll see you there too.
