Ray's Happy Birthday Bar

1200 E. Passyunk Ave.
215-365-1169

Bar/Pub, South Philadelphia

Before he took possession of the bar his father opened in 1938, Lou Cappazolli was a musician, a fixture in Vegas during that town's golden age. He's transported the mood of that era to Ray's, a place where every man — if only for a night — can will himself into a chain-smoking, liquor-swilling, joke-peddling member of his own personal Rat Pack. It is, among other things, a home to old men and young men who think they’re old men. Your laugh is your calling card. But it's truly defined by the sign that hangs behind its reed-thin bartenders: "Good times, good drinks, good friends." Open Mon.-Sat., 7 a.m.-2 a.m.; Sun., 11 a.m.-2 a.m.

  • Average entree under $10
  • Liquor license
  • Smoking Allowed
  • Cash Only

Came down to Philly with a group of 6 guys to enjoy Philly last week. Our 1st stop was cheesestaeks @ Pat's and Geno's. We saw the Rays Happy Birthday Bar sign and decided to check it out . We ended up spending all day and night there. The place is the BEST. Lou and his wife are incredibly friendly hosts. All of us vowed to return and make it an annual trip.Highly recommend it to anyone wanted to experience the South Philly scene.
