During his five-year stay in the U.S., Tsuyoshi Ito has constantly been engaged in the activity of photography. Most of his images come from the daily setting of his life here: the streets and alleys that he walks and the people he meets. In these rather mundane scenes, he focuses on a sense of order, the subtlety of details, and the physical as well as psychological distance between the photographer and subject. His most recent work, the wall series, in which he brings into focus the hazy and overlooked edges of Philadelphia's urban scenery is the extensive continuation of his approach to the medium.
He recently acquired an 8x10 view camera, trying to expand his versatility in format size and begin to explore more into B/W fine printing. Also, he is organizing a bi-monthly informal critique for those who want to continue their involvement in photography beyond formal educational institutions. As a future project, he is planning on setting up his own web server intended to provide web space for people who have creative use for it.
For further inquires and images, please contact him via e-mail, tsutu@earthlink.net, or visit his website.
Technical: The images are taken with a 35mm camera with a Hungarian-brand film, and printed on fiber-based paper from the same manufacturer.
