"These photos hint at the thriving jazz community of Philadelphia. This city is often put in the shadow of New York’s influence, and when people think jazz, Philadelphia doesn’t automatically pop up. In fact, such giants as John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Jaco Pastorious and innumerable others came out of Philly. Jazz is an incredibly intimate affair; the musicians transmit his heart, talent and essential being through their instruments. With this in mind, I try to focus on the minute, keeping Jazz, one of the most complicated forms of music, as simple as possible. These photos were mostly taken at Ortlieb’s Jazz Haus, a veritable musical melting pot, and my earthly heaven, a place where players at the beginnings and ends of their musical careers meet to converse. If you haven't been, check it out, because no photograph could come close to doing the music justice."
Technical: Shot with 35mm Pentax PZ-1P on Kodak TMZ 3200 at 800-3200.
