A photographer since 1996, McGrath has been working for two years on a project he calls "Under the El" — shots of the people, landmarks and architecture found in Kensington and other neighborhoods further north that surround the Market-Frankford El. He currently attends classes part-time at the Antonelli Institute and works on a freelance basis.
Technical: Shot on Kodak HIE speed B&W Infrared film and Kodak p3200 pushed to 6400 the cross-processed (transparent film processed in c-41). "I decided to shoot this neighborhood in these films because I wanted to give it a dreamlike effect.… That's how I interpret this neighborhood, it is almost like a dream to me."
