Four Cities

“One summer while I was an undergraduate at Savannah College of Art and Design, I traveled to Europe to study art and take photographs. Over the course of my summer studies I visited four major cities: Venice, Florence, Milan, and Paris. Every day I got up at the crack of dawn and logged many miles walking throughout the cities and experiencing their cultures. I found myself branching off from my group and wandering each city alone with my camera, making my way through hidden alleyways in Venice, the Pere-Lachaise cemetery in Paris, and the Boboli Gardens in Florence. While my peers were battling crowds and fighting off pickpockets, I sought peace and quiet, looking for vacant chairs and empty spaces. The few people that I did photograph were those in passing and people who were alone. In these photographs, I capture moments of serenity in tourist-laden urban locations.”

Ms. Biegler earned her MFA from Ohio State University last year. She lives in Philadelphia, where she has taught photography and worked with children with developmental disorders.

Technical: 35 mm Pentax p30 and Kodak TMAX 400 film.
