"Through photography, I try to establish something of an intimate connection with my subject. It’s my hope to offer the viewer an opportunity to share in this intimacy. Most of my freelance work would best be described as freestyle’ children's portraiture. Essentially it involves relying on available light and trying not to interfere with the spontaneity of the moment. The natural lack of self-consciousness kids exhibit in front of the lens more than makes up for their inability to stay in one place for more than a second. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with large format digital transfers. I scan my prints and output them to an Encad printer. Then, I transfer the print to damp watercolor paper. I’ve gotten very favorable results from this process. It lends a softer, more organic effect to the image, which I feel co-insides with my artistic intention. I’m more interested in capturing a mood or a feeling towards something, than nailing the shot technically — although it’s always great when that happens, as well."
Technical: These shots were taken with a Pentax K1000 or a Canon EOS. Tmax 400 film was used with normal processing.
