 Bring Back T.O. (really)

categories | Cowboys, dbag athletes, hot stove

Two Sports Complex firsts this morning: we’re preempting rounds (don’t worry, it’s all written and will appear in exactly one hour) and running a post on Terrell Owens that doesn’t include the picture of him doing sit-ups in his front yard.

As you probably know by now, late last night (ESPN’s Michael Smith broke exactly at midnight) the Dallas Cowboys decided that they’ve had just about enough of Terrell Owens‘ antics and sent the trouble-making all-pro packing, cutting him outright just one year after handing him $12 mil to sign an extension. Today, the Eagles should bring him back.

Seriously.

I know I brought this up two weeks ago and I thoroughly understand the counterpoint (in that same article I called him “probably the worst teammate in the history of football” and compared him directly to a cherry bomb), but at the risk of beating a badly beaten horse: Bring Back T.O.!

It’s certainly less crazy than when I wrote it. Since I penned the article T.J. Houshmanzadeh has been signed which dropped the market, Donny has demanded a difference maker so he couldn’t complain, and the Eagles have proven once again that they’re all about the bottom line even at the expense of personal feelings. If they can look past everything Brian Dawkins did for the team, why can’t they also look past everything Owens did to it? Either they’re the type of organization who considers what players mean to the community and the culture of the team, or they’re the type of organization who cares about on-field production above everything else. When they cut Dawk they showed they weren’t the first, if they don’t go after T.O. because their feelings are hurt they’ll show they’re not the second either, which would make them aimless, pathetic and confused.

Look, we can talk for days about a power back, a big left tackle and a blocking tight end, but when push comes to shove Andy just isn’t going to run the ball – it’s not in his nature. Instead of trying to make the old dog trick, why don’t we just give him a favorite chew toy instead? He’ll be happier and more productive and we can stop beating our heads against the wall.

Still think the Eagles need a playmaker? Well, a playmaker just hit the market.

Besides, it’d be a real ‘fuck you’ to the Cowboys – always a plus.
