With that early season winless streak against ranked competition a long forgotten memory and a season sweep over Syracuse in the bag, it’s probably a reasonable time to take a minute to look at Villanova’s shot at the national championship.

At 10-4 in the Big East with wins over Pittsburgh, Marquette, and the ‘Cuse sweep among a full hand full of wins against the RPI top 50, Nova would, right now, probably be a three seed in the Dance. Given the fact that they both have a crunch time scorer (still Reynolds), a half dozen guys who can lead them for a game at a time (including, shockingly, Dwayne Anderson, who came up big yesterday) and can play both fast (102 against Marquette) and slow (held Pitt to 57) and you have to figure they can play with anyone. Add all that to the fact that there just isn’t a clear cut upper crust this year and it’s starting to look like Nova could have as legit a dice roll as any team in the nation.

Of course, with both Georgetown and Notre Dame still on the schedule, as well as the always daunting Big East tourney, they can’t afford to think like that.

  2. The Eagles announced that they should have an announcement to make this week

  3. and Lavoy Allen went off as Temple coasted past St. Bonaventure
