Last Sunday Andy Reid and the Eagles took down the Minnesota Vikings, a team coached by head coach Brad Childress and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier for the right to face the New York Giants and Steve Spaguolo, their defensive coordinator. Hours before the Eagles won John Harbaugh and the Ravens throttled the Miami Dolphins to advance to the AFC divisional round, where they will join the San Diego Chargers and Ron Rivera, their defensive front man.
Save Reid himself, every one of those coaches cut their teeth in the NFL under Reid and the Eagles. In an NFL era where a full 1/4th of NFL teams have changed coaches in the last year alone, the fact that all of these men are succeeding says something about the culture Andy Reid and Eagles have created. That’s the topic of this week’s column. In it I try not to excuse Reid for his faults or apologize for noticing them, but rather to suggest that he has talents that are often hard to spot but also meaningful, significant, and real.
