In early May there was a shooting
outside Playmakers, a bar owned by Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowl wide receiver
and Philadelphian Marvin Harrison. 32-year-old Dwight Dixon
- who
had just been involved in a fistfight with Harrison
- took a bullet to the hand from a gun that was licensed to the wideout.
Dixon filed a civil suit in October but the criminal side had been quiet until this morning when DA Lynne Abraham announced her findings. The verdict? No charge.
This ruling obvious comes as a bit of a surprise. Not only did plenty of early sources report that weapon was Harrison’s property, but the police actually confirmed the charge later. Maybe there is something big I’m missing, but that is normally enough for a weapons charge. Maybe the pro bowler didn’t fire the gun, but I was under the impression that it was certainly his.
We’ll keep you as up to date as possibly, but it looks like Marv might be able to get out of this with a settlement and a collective public ignore. No snitches in Philly, apparently.
UPDATE … The good old AP clears this up a bit. It turns out that there are no charges yet, but Lynne Abraham isn’t done looking yet.
Money quote:
Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham on Tuesday announced that five bullet casings found at the North Philadelphia shooting scene came from Harrison’s handgun. But investigators have conflicting witness accounts of who fired it.
No charges have been filed in the April 28 shooting, but Abraham says the investigation continues.
Good thing they called a presser to announce that.
