When Villanova center Casiem Drummond was a rarely-used freshmen on Curtis Sumpter’s last Villanova team defacto assistant coach Larry Brown made some news by proclaiming that the big was a future NBA pivot. Now, if CD does in fact live out that potential, it won’t be as a Nova product.
Junior center Casiem Drummond (East Orange, N.J./Bloomfield Tech) has informed the coaching staff of his desire to locate a program to which he can transfer.
“Casiem is interested in finding a place where he can earn significantly more playing time than he has received here,” stated Villanova head coach Jay Wright. “Our staff is doing all it can to help him locate that opportunity. Cas’ has made strides in his time with us and we appreciate all his efforts on behalf of our basketball family.”
I’m guessing there is a bit more to the story than just this. Drummond was suspended for “minor violation” of team rules for last week’s Monmouth game and hasn’t played since. It’s not unfair to say that, for whatever reason, he hasn’t lived up to his potential. While this is sure to hurt the Wildcats when they start play in a loaded Big East, maybe it is best for both sides.
FWIW, Drummond is the second player to transfer out of Nova this year. Before the season high scoring guard Malcolm Grant opted to head to Miami rather than continue to lose minutes in a typically crowded Jay Wright backcourt.

Too bad – I had high hopes for Casiem – early on he really looked like he knew what he was doing around the basket. Kept waiting for him to get healthy and for Nova to hop on his back.
I kept hearing sore feet – any insight into that?
