According to the Inquirer Jeremy Bloom, the former Eagles’ kick returner/wideout, has given up on his NFL dream and is headed back to the world of freestyle-skiing in the hopes of making it back to the Olympics.
Bloom, who if I’m not mistaken never played a down for the Birds, was a highly touted kick return prospect coming out of Colorado until he lost his NCAA eligibility for accepting skiing endorsements. He eventually decided to give up college football to compete at the 2006 Olympics, finished sixth, then returned to the gridiron where the Birds drafted him in 2006.
I’ve never met Bloom, but I have fond memories of his stints doing radio for WIP when he was injured. During WIP’s pre-draft show he was asked what positions the Eagles should target and playfully responed “kick returner/wide reciever, for sure” so as to not throw any of his teammates under the bus. Unfortunately, the Eagles did not take his advice, cut him, and spent all of last year unable to catch punts.
Best of luck to Jeremy as he prepares for Vancouver.

Good athlete, just got hit with the injury bug. It is a shame the NCAA wouldn’t let him compete, but I look foreward to watching him in 2010 Vancouver games
