Ryan Howard is not your 2008 NL MVP, Brad Lidge partially to blame

In what really shouldn’t be a surprise Cardinals first baseman Jose Alberto Pujols picked 18 of the 32 possible first place votes en route to his second NL MVP award, bringing him into a tie with the current Phillies. Ryan Howard was a convincing 2nd, earning 12 first-place votes. In a bit of a shocker Phillies’ closer Brad Lidge, who finished 8th, picked up the balance of the #1s.
Pujols deserved the award, he had a hell of a year and just narrowly missed taking an undermanned St. Louis team to the postseason. Still, we’re from Philly and as such will focus on our own: Phils’ slugging first baseman gets a well-deserved first loser. Ryan led the world in home runs and RBI, and put the Phillies on his back as the eventual World Fucking Champions blazed past the Mets to win the NL East.
Worth noting: according to Todd Zolecki Howard received 12 first-place votes, eight second-place votes, six third-place votes, one fifth-place vote, one sixth-place vote, two seventh-place votes and one 10th place vote. By my count, that means that some jerk left him off the ballot completely.
Congrats to the MVP, Ryan Howard, and Brad Lidge.

Do you think Pujols regrets this quote from 2006? I know everyone everywhere is digging up this quote right now, but that doesn’t mean it’s not funny.
