About Last Night … on the Eagles loss

I watched the game from my couch without a notepad, fell
asleep during halftime and stayed that way until about five minutes were gone
in the third quarter so I really don’t feel I’m qualified to write a full ‘about
last night’ up, but I do have some quick hits about the Birds game. Feel free to add on in the comments …
- Whatever his positive traits are – and they shouldn’t be
discounted, because they aren’t as rare as this city makes it seem – Donovan McNabb
is just not a natural leader. With his off-season
camps and his in-game smiles I’m guessing that he imagines himself to be one,
but his mannerisms, fake claps, and “look at me” acknowledgements of fault just
come off awkwardly. Always. - Mike Quick’s pronunciation of Chris Gocong’s name is
fantastic. Instead of putting the pause in
between “Chris” and “Gocong” like a normal person would, Quick puts in between “Go”
and “cong,” ending up calling the linebacker “Chrisgo Cong.” Anyway, Chisgo had himself a ballgame – the tackle
that forced the Jacobs fumble was vicious. - The Birds have led in all three of their NFC East games this
season. - The Eagles young linebackers started the season like
gangbusters, but have really trailed off.
This tells me that they can be gameplanned against, and aren’t
responding. You have to love the
athleticism that the three display, but I’m guessing that if one was replaced
by a heady vet you’d see the difference quickly. Yet another small but important hole in the
Birds’ roster. - Brian Westbrook was a non-factor – which is on him and the
Giants D. He also didn’t have a true
chance to be, he didn’t touch the ball 20 times, which is on the coaching
staff. - As Pomp J pointed out this morning, the Birds are now 3-12
in our last 15 games decided by 6 pts or less.
He took that as an indictment of the entire team; I take it as one of
the coaching staff. - Defensive tackle Mike Patterson played out of this world. Two takeaways and a would-be third on the challenge.
- Fun fact: Eagles defensive linemen have one less
interception than their corners. - The Giants’ 219 rushing yards was the most the Eagles have
allowed at home in 15 years, since the Cowboys had 271 in 1993. - DeSean Jackson is making plays and keeping his mouth shut. I would say he’s going to be a ballplayer, but it looks like he’s there already.
