Game Five Preview: We Have a Wildcard
It’s been said that if you want to make god laugh, just tell him what you’re going to do tomorrow. With the Phillies stopper on the mound and the home crowd behind them, the Phillies are set for their first World Series Championship since “Who shot J.R.?” was still a mystery. This was the win that was supposed to be easy like prom night. Unfortunately, as Jimmy reminded us during the final week of the season, easy just isn’t the Philly way.
The weather at the ballpark is not good — there is a strong NW wind, light but steady rain and steadily dropping temperatures. Fox is reporting light rain until about 11, when it should get worse. The game should get under way as planned, but as the weather picks up, a late-inning rain delay is hardly out of the question.
Baseball is a game of inches, and a wet, cold baseball might move a little more or less than planned.
All of which is to say: We got an honest-to-goodness X factor on our hands.
