Morning Rounds, October 3rd

In front of 46,208 fans – a Citizens Bank Park Record – the Phillies were patient, kept pressure on the Brewers with their legs, and did this:
it was more than enough for Brett Myers, who got out of trouble in the first and was a bulldog for six more. There was plenty in the game that worries me, but in the end the Phillies held home field, took the Brewers heart (they’re postgame quotes were not inspiring in word or tone), and have the city as ‘anything can happen’ excited as any point in recent memory. The Phillies weren’t scared, and like it or not that’s a product of their manager.
I’m sure the team wants to keep playing, but from where I’m sitting I’m going to love this day off. For once, Philly feels like a winner.
“Baseball is reassuring. It makes me feel as if the world is not going to blow up.” – Sharon Olds
Three lines on their world:
- I don’t know if it’s a curse or good old fashioned ineptitude, but the Chicago Cubs just cannot win when it matters
- In their first Postseason ever, the Tampa Bay Rays played like they weren’t scared of Ozzie’s boys one bit
- And Pitt took down #10 USF as Big East Football returned to Thursday Night
Three lines on ours:
- Behind Brett Myers and Shane Victorino, the Phillies put the Brewers back firmly against a wall
- every move Charlie made worked out
- but the Phils will have to take down a local boy to end it in three
Phillies, Birds, Sixers, Flyers and what everybody is talking about after the jump

TODAY and MORE
We’ll have NFL Picks, a return shot at Milwaukee, and a few quick hits, but we need to 1. watch the debate (it’s DVR’d, don’t tell me the score) and 2. finish a book before it becomes irrelevant to review, so probably not too much more tonight.
