Philly sports fans are ridiculous: Overheard at the Bank edition

categories | Phillies

“Well, that takes some of the sting out of losing to the Bears.”

Can’t Stop the Bleeding’s Jason Cohen took in Game 1 yesterday and, along with a lot of good analysis, provides the sadly accurate overheard line of the year.

In support of my claim in our Choice issue that Rick Reilly’s assertion that Philly is now a baseball town is confounding, Cohen offers this:

Indeed, it’s one thing for Reilly to be silly, sentimental or
annoying. That was plain inaccurate. Heard as I walked out of the
Stadium Holiday Inn men’s room at 5:45 today: “Well, that takes some of the sting out of losing to the Bears.”

If we win the series, will that take some of the sting out of, oh, losing to the Patriots in ‘05?

If we take it all the way, will that, I dunno, take some of the sting out losing to the Raiders in ‘81?
