The Game:  When I was
putting together the Hamels profile we were trying to find a game we could
point to that would show Hollywood
at his best, problem was, there wasn’t one.  He had the 14 K game, but it was last year,
and we were looking for something relevant.  He had that big game at the end of last
season, but it was against the Nationals, and he didn’t have the same stuff a
week later.  Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t
that he wasn’t putting together fantastic starts – it was just that he always
seemed to pitch pretty well, but
rarely completely dominated.  Now we have
that signature game.

Zolecki recap HERE, Murphy’s HERE, Miller’s HERE, Mandel’s
HERE, Milwaukee’s
HERE, and the AP’s HERE, with video.

The Hero:  Colbert Michael Hamels

The Race: The Phillies’ kept home field advantage and can really
put the clamps on tonight.

Other Notes …

  • Ryan Howard drew three walks

  • Despite the injured back, Pat Burrell was in the lineup.  He went 0-2 with a walk.  The Phillies will need the threat of his bat tonight against CC
  • TBS’ announcing crew was brutal. They opined that Cole Hamels‘ changeup “might be his second best pitch”, thought that Cholly swtiched Utley and Werth for the playoffs, as opposed to weeks before, and generally attempted to make my life miserable
  • Shane Victorino, not generally noted for his plate discipline, walked twice, including once with the bases loaded to drive in the Phils’ third run
  • As a team, the Phillies hit just under .150 for the game.  If Hamels hadn’t gone out and done Hollywood stuff, we’d be talking about a team that can’t hit in the postseason.

>>TBS’ announcing crew was brutal

I eventually switched over to the radio broadcast. It was a little behind the tv broadcast, so I paused the tv for just a couple seconds and everything was synced up nicely. I’ll probably do the whole game that was tonight.

Honestly, if McCain-Palin promise to pass a law outlawing TBS from ever broadcasting a baseball game again, I might consider voting for them. What happened to the days when TBS showed only Braves games?
