About Last Night – September 23rd
The Phillies didn’t pitch a single one of their top seven
pitchers and still managed to hold the Braves to just two runs. J.A. Happ has emerged as a steady hand and has
made the 5th starter issue moot.
Meanwhile, the Mets continued to do their damnest to lose their
Charlie Day status to the Milwaukee.
Things look good in Philsville.

| Rich Dubee keeps a watchful eye over the shoulders of his pitching staff |
The Game: The Phillies got great pitching from unexpected
spots and capitalized on a couple of mistakes from the Braves to beat Atlanta 6-2 and move 2.5
games ahead of the Mets with just five to play. Murphy’s recap HERE (best lede), Zolecki’s HERE, Mandel’s Horan’s
HERE, Miller’s is HERE, Atlanta’s is HERE, and the AP’s is HERE, with video.
The Hero: Greg Golson is the sentimental favorite, but Rich
Dubee needs to get this attaboy. The
Phils pitching coach was without basically his entire bullpen, had a guy making
the forth start of his career on the mound and still came away with an
excellent pitching performance.
The Race: Up 2.5 in the East and a game more than that in
the WC the Phillies control their own destiny.
Other Notes …
