PHILLIES
The Phillies aren’t playing with urgency or acting like they
need to, it’s like they and they alone know the eventual outcome and are able
to sit back while everyone around them worries and frets. Maybe it’s just from where I’m standing, but
it really does seem like the press is more worried, and cares more about the
games on the field than the team does.
It is surreal.
That says, what do I know? The Phillies had a Hollywood ending last
year and are either due for a run – they haven’t won six or more games in a row
all season – or far worse than their talent dictates. Not too much more time to find out.
The Game: Phils dropped the game and the series to the
struggling Marlins (ahhh, feels good to have the entire set without saying that
these Fish are ‘floundering’) 7-4. Murphy’s recap HERE, Zolecki’s HERE, Mandel’s HERE, Miller’s HERE, Florida’s is HERE, and the AP’s is HERE, with video.
The Goat: The Lineup has to put up more than three
runs. No one had multiple hits, no one
moved runners over and no one put the team on his back. That said, Chad Durbin and J.C. Romero are
the goats. Poor showing gentlemen.
The Race: Lets not talk about this today, gameplan? Gameplan.
Other Notes …
- In the first inning Brett Myers surrendered two doubles and
no runs. When he’s on he can get himself
out of trouble with the strikeout - Myers doubles to the deepest part of the yard to open the
third. The Phillies are unable to get
him home. - Tonight’s game put the Phillies went over 3,000,000 in total
attendance. It has been the fastest the
Phils have ever reached the 3 mil mark - Brett Myers had 8+ Ks for his 6th straight start
- Myers allowed his first home run since August
- Jayson Werth has stolen 14 consecutive bags
- Myers‘ double was his first since 2005
- 18 of Ryan Howard’s last 24 hits have gone for extra bases
- Romero and Coste got into a dispute over pitch location in
the 8th. In his last start
Hamels was visibly upset with Chris Clutch over the same thing. Something to
watch.
