Three lines on their world:
- Joe Torre is Manny Ramirez’s manager
- George Kenneth Griffey Junior moves to Chicago
- And the Cubs complete a four-game sweep, are nasty
Three lines on ours:
Phillies, Birds, Sixers, Flyers and retaliation after the jump
PHILLIES
Behind Kyle Kendrick, Jimmy Rollins, and an inept Washington team the
Phillies completed their sweep of the Nationals to move a full game in front of
the Mets for first place in the NL East.
It is fantastic for the Phils to get on track, it is
fantastic that they put the game away in the sixth and it is fantastic that
seemingly the entire team got in on the action, but this series was more about
the Nationals than it was about the Phillies.
Which, ironically, actually says more about the Phillies than it does
about the Nationals. The Phils are a
good team who can’t hit top-shelf pitching but destroy bad pitchers and organizations. That isn’t a terrible team to be, and it
might be a good enough team to make the playoffs.
The heroes were Kendrick, who did what he needed, and Jimmy,
who got a couple hits, scored a couple runs and went yard for good
measure.
The Good Guys head to St.
Louis tomorrow where they’ll meet their ace (9-6, 3.27
ERA) and face the Cardinals and ex-Phillie Kyle Lohse (12-3, 3.68 ERA). Look for another win, because if Hamels
doesn’t win I’m going to freak out.
Other Notes …
- Leading off the 4th Kyle Kendrick had the
safe-on-a-strikeout K, E-2. It proved to
be a costly error for the Nats – Jimmy went deep the next AB to score them
both. - Jesus Colome absolutely threw at Chase Utley in the 8th. Utley, always the pro didn’t react. I hope somebody in that bullpen got our back
(you know Myers’ would) - Jayson Werth went deep
- Washington
has lost nine in a row - Shane Victorino got his eighth bunt hit of the season in the
fourth - Kyle Kendrick threw a wild pitch in the 2nd was the first of his career
- The Phils’ five straight wins ties their season high
- After the
game the Nats released veterans Paul Lo Duca and
Felipe Lopez, presumably because they’re awful

Joe and Manny headed back to the World Series? together this time …
One thing you gotta hand Manny (other than his, from a distance, utter likableness)is that he handles pressure. You gotta have one guy at bat down the stretch, its gotta be Manny, right?
Joe and Manny in the same dugout, you couldn’t make this stuff up. Can’t wait
An NL Championship of Phils vs Cubs or Phils vs Dodgers would be a dream come true
