Phillies, Birds, Sixers, Flyers and more from the off day after the jump
PHILLIES
The Phillies just played the all-star game and played it poorly. The only takeaway Phillies’ fans should come away with is that most of the team got a well deserved day off.
Jim Salisbury reports that Brett Myers is getting recalled for a July 23rd loss. SKIP
Salisbury then writes about Chase Utley’s all-star weekend experience. READ
Salisbury also reports that the Phillies want to host another ASG. No plans are in the works. SKIP
David Murphy’s notebook looks at Billy Wagner’s take on Chase Utley, Clint Hurdle’s take on Brad Lidge and more. READ
With the spectrum about to close someone put together a list of old Philadelphia stadiums. READ
Randy Miller writes that Billy Wagner and Pat Burrell aren’t the mortal enemies that we make them out to be. READ
USA Today sits down for a surprisingly un-illuminating chat with Michael Jack Schmidt. SKIP
EAGLES
Joseph Santoliquito reports that local-product Kevin Jones is a Chicago Bear. READ
SIXERS
Kate Fagan reports that Thad Young is a summer league all-star. READ
Phil Jasner writes about Thad Young, the young vet. READ
Tom Moore writes that Thad Young is excited for the upcoming season. Whoever the Sixer PR guy is who wanted to get TY some pub (Mike Preston, we’re looking at you) deserves a gold star. Dude had three positive articles written about him today. SKIP
Frank Fitzpatrick on the death of the Spectrum. SKIP, because it is too hard to read. My question is what happens to the Dr. J statue? And Perfect has been asking about the spot on the floor where Leattner hit that shot … can I have that?
Bill Lyon is a dramatic man when it comes to old buildings, but he does mention the same Leattner shot I did, so +1 for that. Still, SKIP
Joseph N. DiStefano on the future of he building. SPOILER ALERT: it’s going to be a 300,000-square-foot store, restaurant, bar, cinema, hotel and garage project, dubbed “Philly Live!” SKIP
Ed Kracz looks back on the history on the Spectrum, kind of. SKIP
FLYERS
Sam Carchidi reports that Eric Desjardins is the newest Flyer coach. READ
TODAY and MORE
All things considered, today probably has less relevant sports news than any day in the history of the The Sports Complex so I think that it is at least plausible that we’re in for a slow day. We’ll try to find someone interesting to chat with, but it won’t be until the afternoon (wow, how is that for poor marketing?). As always, feel free to drop us an email with any questions, suggestions, comments or complaints.
