Morning Rounds July 15th – Josh Hamilton is the new Roy Hobbs

categories | Morning Rounds

Morning Roundup: “Boo? Fuck you” – Chase Utley

long before his story was realized

Three lines on their world:

  1. Josh Hamilton is a monster of a man
  2. For the first time in my lifetime Billy Packer will not be calling the final four
  3. and Brett Farve goes public in his valiant attempt to ruin his legacy

Three lines on ours:

  1. Chase Utley may not have won the home run derby, but he did give it one of it’s signature moments
  2. Even the fake Phillies own NYC
  3. and the Sixers turn their focus to their own guys

Phillies, Birds, Sixers, Flyers and 28 more after the jump

Bob Ford makes the point that managers are judged on their teams winning percentage, which is true, but seems to ignore the point that this seems like at least a plausibly fair measuring system for managers. SKIP

Zolecki reports on the “Boo? Fuck you” incident. Heh. SKIP

So does Murphy.  The line between traditional news outlets and blogs dims further. SKIP

So does the 700 level, who puts together the best recap of what happened and who reacted to it. READ

*if you can only read one Paul Hagan makes the smart point that a year ago Cliff Lee, the AL Starting Pitcher in tonight’s All Star Game, was in the same position as Brett Myers is in now. READ

Tom Mahon reports on the guy who dressed as a Phillie and signed autographs at the All-Star FanFest. SKIP

Mike Sielski reports that when Brad Lidge was struggling he was tipping his pitches. READ

David Murphy gets the same scoop. SKIP

Randy Miller’s notes look at the Marlins’ role in the NL East and Bill Giles‘ inability to win an ASG. SKIP

Kevin Cooney reports from the derby.  SKIP

Randy Miller on the NL East race. READ

SIXERS

Shoals says that Lou Williams might just be more important to keep than Andre Iguodala. READ

Kate Fagan says that with Brand locked up, the Sixers are focusing on keeping their own guys. SKIP

Frank Fitzpatrick reports on anecdotal evidence that does not look good for another referee in the Tim Donaghy scandal.  If this turns out to involve several refs the whole league is in trouble. READ

EAGLES

Rich Hofmann says that the Eagles should pay careful attention to how the Brett Farve debacle unfolds. READ

Bob Brookover reports on what McNabb is blogging about.  SKIP (in a shock to no one Enrico beat him to it anyway)

TODAY and MORE

Overall a decent day, so no if you can only skip one today.  Other than that, we’ll and out all day.  As always, feel free to email with any questions, suggestions, comments or complaints.

That Hochman article was beyond infuriating. It reads like he maybe, i dunno, fell asleep after the 13th graf then woke up and transcribed a dream he was having.
