HR Derby Look ahead
Heading into the derby experts are predicting what may happen in tonight’s event.
Vegas is all about Josh Hamilton. He’s at +290, which places him well above 2nd bet Lance Berkman (+400). JustinMorneau and Chase Utley are tied for third at +475. My favorite part of that is that the website lists all eight scheduled competitors AND the field. Even crazier is that the field has worse odds than Evan Longoria, Ryan Braun, and Dan Uggla. So according to Vegas it is more likely that ayet-to-be-identified player decides to make an unscripted entrance into the Derby AND win it than it would be for the Dan Uggla, who is forth in Major League Baseball in homeruns, to win.
Either they know something we don’t (plausible) or someone is making a sucker’s bet right now.
Crashburn Alley looks at what type of hitter should have an advantage at Yankee Stadium, says Chase Utley is that type of hitter and predicts he’ll beat Josh Hamilton in the final round.
Buster Olney breaks down the competitors one by one
Dan Shanoff says Utley will win, Hamilton might win, and Ryan Braun should win
Behind the Box Score goes, well behind the box scores to prove that the home run derby curse is a myth and nothing but

UPDATE: fanhouse preview
and my prediction: I’m with Vegas, give me the Giambino in a surprise, rule-breaking (if you’re not an AS, you can’t hit) late-addition

The guys on the Sunday Baseball Show on ESPN Radio yesterday (special guest host yesterday was none other than Buster Olney) interviewed David Wright and asked his take on the Derby.
Wright thought Hamilton might put too much pressure on himself with all the hype. His pick was Lance.
My money is on Ryan Braun. He can mash
