Sidecar gets the blessing for upstairs expansion

Back in February, we wrote about the ambitious renovation plans for The Sidecar at 22nd and Christian. Adam Ritter, who owns the excellent beer bar with his wife, Jen, wanted to increase capacity by expanding up two floors, with a roof deck and small performance venue on the third story. To-be-expected neighborhood opposition and a trip-up surrounding outdoor dining, however, delayed plans.
Now, things are looking up for the project. Ritter tells Meal Ticket his expansion has officially received the blessing from both the South of South Neighborhood Association and the city’s Zoning Board of Adjustment. Plans have been scaled down — the second floor bar/dining area will still happen, but the Ritters, who own the bricks, will keep the third floor residential as a compromise with neighbors who expressed noise concerns. They hope to have the expansion completed somewhere in the first half of 2010.
The bar recently expressed its gratitude for its supporters via this Philadelphia Speaks forum post.

Fuck yeah I love Sidecar! Now if only they would something about the one waiter dude who is never friendly. Seriously, can I get a smile with that beer?
