Apologies for the delay — the holiday weekend threw Meal Ticket posting off a bit!
- Bistrot La Minette, from chef Peter Woolsey, is up to bat this time, facing the tough-but-always-fair pitching arsenal of one Trey Popp. Our crit walks out charmed by the starters — an “absolutely inspired” salmon tartare that made an appearance on Felicia D’Ambrosio’s recent Top 5 list, for one — and the desserts, including the stunner above and the far-from-mundane warm chocolate cake. Entrées, however, left Popp wanting more.
- Busy week in Feeding Frenzy: Thai Chef & Noodle Fusion has arrived, as has Del Frisco’s, Ugly Mug is on its way to Old City and some updates on two good spots in G-Ho.
- Felicia D is also responsible for sharing the sweet tale of Mr. Ralph Berarducci, the Abruzzo native who’s been feeding the homeless at his restaurant Portofino every Thanksgiving for more than 15 years.
- Top 5 is quite seasonal this go-round, with Laura H. Yacoe showing you how to capitalize on the Flavors of the Harvest, from pumpkin pancakes at the excellent Mémé to an entire Thanksgiving dinner on a hoagie roll.
- Nikki Volpicelli, whom I often call Nikki-san for some reason, is the queen of the eat/drink calendar events. She runs through a bunch in the latest edition of What’s Cooking — almost all of which have happened already. (I’m sorry, don’t hate me.) There is ONE left to rock with, however — a class, being held tonight and Wednesday night, all about the traditiontal seven fishes Italian holiday dinner. Make a Sopranos joke and you’ll end up one of the seven.
