London Grill occasionally has a wonderful pumpkin curry soup in the fall.


Erawan Thai. Hope it was good, I’m still dying for good Thai in this city.

For soup, Johnny Brenda’s and the Standard Tap always have a good one and Royal Tavern goes 4 or 5 deep on the soup list.

You are correct, sir. And I gotta say that Erawan is my favorite Thai place in the city. Prices and service are great, huge selection. As far as I can tell, the menu’s been edited a bit for us wimpy Americans, but that doesn’t mean you can’t request things hyper-spicy. (While we’re on that topic, click HERE to check out a 2006 article wherein Trey Popp somehow convinces the Erawan staff to cook him “authentic” Thai cuisine.)

Great soup suggestions so far. One badass bowl I tried recently: Chef Josh McCullough at Time does an simple, incredible cauliflower soup finished with truffle oil. So, so good.
