Ali’s Wagon, not closing after all
![]() |
A couple of weeks ago, we reported that Ali’s Wagon, Fairmount’s home/children’s boutique and parenting center, would be closing its doors in mid-February. Turns out that’s no longer the case.
In a surprising turn of events, owners Jessie Menken and Nat Weston will now be keeping the store open. A resident of Fairmount — who wishes to remain anonymous — has come forward and offered financial backing for the store over the next five years, with plans to re-assess in one year.
After Menken announced that Ali’s would be closing, dozens of customers e-mailed, called and stopped by the store to tell her what a loss it would be for themselves personally and for the neighborhood. Some even begged her to stay open. But Menken never expected one of them to offer financial support. She’s still reeling from the news, and recently headed to a gift show in New York to stock up on new inventory.

That’s great news!
