See Andy Reid Steve Odabashian sing as Andy Reid tonight at Helium Comedy Club
When I ran into pianist, singer and Andy Reid impersonator Steve Odabashian last week at National Mechanics, he looked blue for a guy whose stock must certainly be up, what with the Eagles revving it for this Sunday’s smashup against the Giants. He was coughing, yes. But something else seemed out of whack.
What is it? Extra weight after the holidays? Did you shave your eyebrows?
”No — I'm growing a beard now,” said Odabashian. "It sucks."
Hmmm. I should’ve taken a picture.
Steve has been playing the piano at Helium Comedy Club (2031 Sansom St., 215-496-9001) on Friday nights, and he closed out both the NBC10 and CBS3 newscasts last Friday night as Reid. And since Odabashian dresses up like the newly bearded coach from time to time when he plays, Comcast Sportsnet will be coming to his Helium show tonight between 7 and 8 p.m. He’ll dress as Reid and sing this horrible R&B McNuggets commercial:
OK. That’s fucked up. But you should go see Odabashian do his thing on Sansom Street — and wear a beard. I am. Since I couldn’t snap a picture of Reid/Steve in time, I’m posting a shot of me that my wife snapped the other day — me and my stinky stubble. I may not have yanked out my bat for the Phillies, but I can sport some facial hair for the Iggles. And if I'm growing a beard, things are truly a mess.
