I’m a Believer: Carol Han Ceramics
![]() |
Welcome to “I’m a Believer,” the nondenominational Clog series in which we choose an artsy Philadelphian we’re particularly fond of and then gush about them like a proud mama. Check this Web site every Thursday around noon for our pick of the week. (Nominations? Hit me up at carolyn [dot] huckabay [at] citypaper [dot] net.)

This week's Believer is our very own pottery all-star Carol Han, whose whimsical, multi-handled ceramic mugs are the first ones we reach for every morning.
I first came across Carol's wares at the Art Star Craft Bazaar, a ridiculous amalgam of purchasable creativity, where zombie plushies, hand-knitted cigarette cases, fine-art posters, kids' clothes, '50s frocks, creature wallets, hand-crafted jewelry and messenger bags (oh my) live together in zany harmony. She's set up shop at various craft festivals around town ever since, and we're excited to see what else she's got up her glaze-caked sleeves.
In the meantime, check out what we had to say about her in our September CP Choice issue:
Most Likely to SucceedCarol Han (carolhanceramics.blogspot.com) is a potter by day and, like countless Philly artists with bills to pay, a Stephen Starr server by night. She's a busy lady: In addition to selling her wares at this year's Art Star Craft Bazaar and InLiquid's Art for the Cash Poor, she participates in a work exchange with the Clay Studio, has set up shop at West Philly's VIX Emporium (5009 Baltimore Ave., 215-471-7700) and is launching her own Etsy site in November. One look at her gorgeous hand-thrown ceramic mugs and you'll start crossing your fingers that she quits her night job.
