We first told you about Bella Vista Beer Distributors' move to a 38,000-square-foot space at 755 S. 11th Street on Aug. 10. Chris Fetfatzes, who runs BVBD with father Mario and brother Jordan, had a lot to talk about, but was quiet about certain aspects of the project:
Fetfazes also pointed out a windowed space on the 11th Street side that he calls "a unique section" that'll "embody what the pinnacle of beer should be." He was very tight-lipped about what exactly that meant. It's one of those wait and see situations.
Now it seems that they're ready to share more details. Fetfatzes e-mails:
It has a Belgian abbey in the store, complete with a clock tower, chandeliers and actual stone flooring. We're going to stock over 1,200 different types of beers from around the world. We are teaming up with George Hummel (world-renowned brewer and owner of Home Sweet Home Brew; 20th & Sansom) to make do-it-yourself home brew kits. Polished cement floors, and most importantly, while scraping the plaster off the walls we uncovered a pre-Prohibition beer advertisement that reads "Philadelphia's best beer." It is dated and archived from 1840. Trust me when I say this there will be nothing like this in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania or even the East Coast.
A gigantic beer distributor. With a Belgian abbey inside.
Yes.
More soon.
