Drinking will be Prohibited at 13th and Buttonwood

We recently touched base with Cafe Lift chef/co-owner Michael Pasquarello, who shared a few details about Prohibition Taproom (501 N. 13th St.), the Loft District bar he and wife Jeniphur Whitleigh hope to have open in late September or early October.
- The building itself dates back to the late 19th century, when it was a thriving speakeasy; in the '60s, it was a journo haunt known as the Pen and Quill. Pasquarello says he's revamping the interior to reflect such bygone eras. It'll accommodate around 50. They'll keep the custom-built bar crafted by former tenants Maker's Local/Canavan's.
- Ten beers on tap with many regional brews. They're also installing a hand-pump system and working on a " worldly" bottle selection — "not like Monk's, but a pretty healthy list."
- Pasquarello says he'll do a rotating chalkboard menu using local and seasonal ingredients — think Lift's menu dressed up in gastropub clothes. "The food will be as heavily focused upon as the drinks," he says. "People who come in and want to eat but not drink will feel comfortable."
