Deuce’s last night is tonight

Yesterday, the NorthernLiberties.org forums blew up with residents upset over the apparent closing of Deuce, the neighborhood-fave restaulounge located in Tower Investments' Liberties Walk complex.

"Tonight is our last night," Deuce owner Laura Vernola confirmed moments ago.

She would not comment on the reasons behind Deuce's close. (Posters seem fixated on pointing an accusatory finger at Tower's Bart Blatstein, though that's not exactly a new development.) Vernola was also unable to confirm or deny a rumor that Bar Ferdinand owner Owen Kamihira, who designed Deuce, would be taking it over. She still currently owns both the restaurant and the liquor license. The future of the space will be clearer in about a week.

In the meantime, Vernola requests that Tower decriers tone it down. "There is no reason for personal attacks. Nobody knows what happened except for me," says Vernola of the vitriolic tone of some comments. "On the other hand, there were many nice comments made about Deuce and what I've done here. I was hoping to do a lot more in NoLibs, but it just didn't work out."

"Life goes on, and I'm just going to continue on. It's what I do best," adds Vernola, who will soon leave on a cross-country road trip. When she returns, Vernola will continue her other gig -- she's a realtor for Prudential Fox & Roach -- before plunging into a new business endeavor. This one will not be food- or restaurant-related.
