I'll admit that my fondness for Sir Clarke stems from the film 2001: A Space Odyssey and not for his being one of the "big three" of science fiction. It happens to be the one book of his that I've read, as it happens to be my favorite movie of all time. That it was written, produced, filmed and released before the Apollo missions ever actually landed is amazing.
Many images and concepts from the book and movie have become iconic. Kubrick and Clarke worked hand in hand during the whole process. In fact, Kubrick always filmed books, except for 2001, for which he had the book written.
2001 is a story of transcendence from pre-historic cave-dwelling to other-worldly consciousness. It's a huge piece in the puzzle of what's next for us humans.
See y'all on the other side of the Monolith.
