Amorosi on the news, nightlife, gossip and bitchiness beats.

Published: Nov 11, 2009

Charity begins at home. That should mean y'all have to buy Glamorosi, my jewelry-designing love-and-missus, something swank for her b-day, but we'll let you go this week — the greater good must be served (though Lord knows Williams-Sonoma's got new stuff in stock). Nov. 16 is a worthwhile start. That's when we the dancers of Philly insist you get on the DJ Reenie Kane train at Voyeur. After having taken care of her longtime love (and ours) Adele Landini, Reenie, the out-mistress of disco, had a heart attack followed by pneumonia, plus she's long been diabetic. Messed up. She made this scene. Help her. Nov. 16 at National Mechanics features another charity with Fire Museum Records as its wheel. Prince Rama of Ayodhya had all gear and merch stolen when they played Philly in October. Along with a screening of the worst film of all time, The Room, at midnight, Hermit Thrushes, Tinmouthy and Strand of Oaks play for Prince's supper. Plus, on Nov. 14, Philly's Annie, Andrea McArdle, hits Hamilton Hall to raise ducats for Philly's Gay Men's Chorus fundraiser.

► Major stuff: Ropeadope-r Andy Horowitz — Baby Loves Disco-tech, Temple U teacher, Piazza at NoLibs booker/broker — left those latter two jobs up north (but never the 'Dopey) for points west: He'll start a gig teaching at Drexel and running Mad Dragon records, home of The Swimmers, Andrew Lipke, etc. This all means that mad Terry Tompkins was let go from the Dragon but stays on as professor at DU.

► Ex-CP adman-turned-actor/moviemaker Sonny Vellozzi left NYC's Big Apple Film Fest with his shorts (Sleeping with the Fishes) and longs (Sicilian Tale) in time for an afternoon celebration of independents at International House Nov. 14. Ask Sonny 'bout Rizzo. You'll love it.

► "My Attorney" Bernie Resnick has two surprises. His classical/rock piano client Vitalij Kuprij from da Ukraine/Curtis Institute of Music/Reading, Pa., just got the gig as Trans Siberian Orchestra keyboardist, and will be playing both TSO shows at the WachCenter Nov. 21. Dig it. Resnick will participate in a mock record producer-vs.-label negotiation courtesy National Association of Record Industry Professionals (narip.com) at Bat Cave Studios, (444 N. Third) Nov. 16. Bring cake and cash for the edu-tational laughs.

► We heard that our pals at Lake Butterscotch Booking grew a li'l dissatisfied wit' Khyber and moved its intended Old City show with power-pretties Devil Eyes and Southernly swamp heads Bad Cop to Tritone Nov. 15. Ooh, a fight. Me likey. For something less discordant (at least in terms of booking/venue) the night prior, see restless noisemaking Americana sorts The Armchairs headline their first-ever gig at Johnny Brenda's with Univox (whom Lake Buttescotch manage — dag). Fact: Several Armchairs went to the same area high schools as did Hall then Oates, tho' certainly nowhere near the same century.

► What are your friends in publicity doing this week? Just tons. The kids from Matthew Vlahos — OK, that's one kid — welcomes two, count 'em two, Bacon Bros., along with Bunny Siegler, to a Save the Mummers reception on Thu., Dec. 12, at a Where mag co-sponsored nosh at Paradiso on East Passyunk. Days later, just one hour before the start of their creepy mom-son dating advice show's second season, VH-1's Tough Love hosts Steven and JoAnn Ward — Philly's own — offer nibbles and cocktail at Union Trust Nov 15. Meanwhile for Dusk's Thanksgiving week, the kids from Cashman & Associates PR get Madonna's boy-toy Jesus Luz for a DJ set at Dusk in A.C. I can't wait to see the Cherry Poppin' Daddies Nov. 13 at World Café Live. Not because I give a trombone hole about their retro brass sound. The Delco Nightingale — the kings and queens of Lancaster, Pa.-based swing jazz/rockabilly signed to Lanark Records (debut out in January 2010) with the coolest name ever — opens for the Daddies.

WHOWHATWHERE: Wyclef Jean ate on Rising Sun Avenue's Caribbean Feast after he spent time at Villa hawking his new green (the ethos, not the color) boot branded through Timberland (not Timbaland). Real Housewives of Atlanta ho... I mean honey Kim Zolciak hit Varga for martinis. Comedian/Stern regular Jim Florentine ate at McCormick & Schmick's before playing Helium. Ray Lamontagne noshed at Davio's before his Tower Theater gig.

► Before we close out our Spectrum memories, let us not forget that old chairs make great Christmas presents. That's why Spectrum/Wach Center honcho Ike Richman reminds me to remind the kids that souvenir seats became available on Monday through rememberthespectrum.com: A pair is $395, a single permanent seat is $295 and a single folding chair is $195. I want the seat from when I saw Uriah Heep!
