Con Murphy's (CLICK IMAGE FOR LARGER VERSION) |
Tir Na Nog founders Maurice Collins and Liam Kelly have taken over the corner restaurant space at the Windsor Hotel for Con Murphy's, a tri-level pub serving breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner. Chef Todd Butler, who specializes in "international comfort food," is offering a large menu with choices outside the typical U.K. pub bangers-and-mash/fish-and-chips realm — check out confit chicken with sorrel and arugula salad; pan-crisped rainbow trout with a lemon-caper remoulade; mini burgers topped with manchego and grilled sweet onions; or an oven-roasted lamb panini with brie, arugula, tapenade and tomato. Retired schoolteacher Joey Rocco opened this South Street thin-crust pizza spot on Halloween. He's doing 12- and 16-inch pies, with toppings ranging from Fiorella's sausage and imported Italian meats to house-roasted hot and sweet peppers and imported anchovies; there are a few salads to go along with the pies, which rely on secret family blends for both the dough and cheese. The "stone fired" in the name refers to the volcanic rock that lines the conveyor portion of Rocco's pizza oven; he says it radiates heat in such a way to ensure both the top and bottom of his pies cook evenly. Joey's is not doing slices. Check out pics on Meal Ticket.
