Hair Of The Dog Craft Show Sundays

Julie Raboczi, founder of the Philadelphia Independent Craft Market, doesn't consider herself an artist. "I'm a street peddler," she says. Why? "I use a lot of hot glue!" Her résumé says otherwise: She's hosted nine arts and crafts markets this year — including the PBR Crafting Challenge — and just kicked off a new one last month.

Dubbed Hair of the Dog Craft Show Sundays, it differs from Raboczi's past events because it offers workshops for attendees. Last month, people made paper art, and in June they'll whip up wallets from tape. (This month, due to unforeseen circumstances, there isn't an organized workshop. Raboczi predicts that creative folks will set up an impromptu one, though.)

Bands like Spinning Leaves and The Great Unknown will perform regularly at Hair of the Dog, with various world musicians playing this Sunday. A slew of vendors, including Michele Judge (a folk jeweler), Super de Duper (a comic artist), Pinupsquirrel (a diorama maker) and Communi-tea (a T-shirt company, pictured), will also sell their wares.

In at least one way, Hair of the Dog is like all of Raboczi's past projects — it nurtures D.I.Y. locals. "I wanted to create a space that wasn't snobby and supported the handmade independent craft movement," she says. This time, you can support it by both buying goods and making them — preferably with a hot glue gun — yourself.

Sun., May 24, noon-7 p.m., free, Piazza at Schmidt's, 1100 N. Second St., randomsquirrellab.com.
