How do you reinvent the inexplicable? That was the challenge faced by Philly prog-pop weirdos Make a Rising when the band imploded and split in half a few months back. After toying with new lineups that they felt sounded regrettably like Godflesh and not enough like Magma, they recruited guitarist Nick Millevoi and bassist Travis Woodson and set to writing new material and building volcanos for the live set. For a band that has in the past managed to combine Brian Wilson sunniness with Gregorian chanting and obtuse guitar angles out of Fripp and Frith, the spectre of the new can only herald the unexpected.
