The Roxborough YMCA is hosting this fest to benefit its Strong Kids campaign, which provides support to families in need of healthy activities and child care. Home Sweet Homebrew and beerappreciation.com will run tastings; there'll be chicken fingers, pretzels and burgers to eat. Call or go online for tickets. Roxborough YMCA, 7201 Ridge Ave., 215-482-3900, myspace.com/roxybrewfest

Entertain for Less
Mon., Nov. 17, 6:30 p.m., $45

The economy resembles great-grandma's. But before you start shoving butter packets into your purse, consult chef David Grear, who'll show how to host a dinner party without breaking the bank. Sample and learn how to make dishes like turkey medallions with green peppercorns and Cointreau sauce. Reservations required. Albertson Cooking School (at Madsen Kitchen & Bath Design Center), 2901 Springfield Road, Broomall, 610-356-4800, albertsoncookingschool.com.

The Wines of Germany and Austria
Tue., Nov. 18, 7 p.m., $65

Spirits consultant Joseph M. Brandolo thinks Austrian and German wines deserve a little pat on the back. Join him and World Café Live executive chef Matthew Babbage for a video tour of the countries and the reds and whites they produce. Accompanying the vino is Riesling-poached rainbow trout with thyme, German apple sour cream cake and more. Reservations required. World Café Live, 3025 Walnut St., 215-222-1400, worldcafelive.com.
