Just Do It

One Night Stand

Published: Oct 22, 2008

Thu., Oct. 30, 6:30 p.m., sold out, Park Hyatt at the Bellevue, 200 S. Broad St., 215-563-0652, mazzonicenter.org

The City of Brotherly Love is getting cozy with women of Sapphic intentions this week when the cast of Showtime's The L Word makes an appearance at One Night Stand, a benefit for the Mazzoni Center.

"It's about raising money and awareness that Mazzoni Center has services for bi and lesbian women as well as gay men and transgender individuals," says Dave Rumsey, the center's communications director. After series regular Jennifer Beals (yes, that Jennifer Beals from Flashdance) toured Mazzoni during a visit to Philly this summer while stumping for Obama, she met with executive director Nurit Shein to speak about LGBTQ issues, such as health disparities within the community. The rest is herstory.

The main event — which is unfortunately (for you, anyway) sold out — will feature DJs Jivey Rivas and Just Jess, and the tea room at the Park Hyatt will be transformed into The Planet nightclub from The L Word. Everyone, however, is welcome to hit up the after-party at Sisters Nightclub.
