This movie is one of the reasons the Hayes Code — the strict Hollywood rules for censorship — was invented. To celebrate their tenth year of screenings at the famed Fairmount jail (near Al Capone's old cell!), Secret Cinema unleashes their favorite women in prison flick. Judy Davis stars as Sybylla, an Aussie living in the early 20th century who eschews marriage with her rich and dreamy paramour (Sam Neill) to become a governess to her illiterate neighbor. THE ROTUNDA Andrew's Video Vault, 4014 Walnut St., 215-573-3234, armcinema25.com. Rain Without Thunder (1993, U.S., 85 min.) Using a documentary style, director Gary Bennett presents a futuristic world where abortion is completely outlawed. The Handmaid's Tale (1990, U.S./Germany, 108 min.) Continuing with the pro-choice, "what if" is the adaptation of Margaret Atwood's book of the same name. After an environmental disaster makes most women infertile, a religious regime takes over. The few fertile women left are forced into sexual slavery and become baby-makers on legs. Thu., Sept. 11, 8 p.m., free.

Beijing Bicycle (2001, France, 113) Guei arrives in Beijing from rural China and gets a job as a bike messenger. His bike is stolen by teenage Jian, who wants it for status and to impress the ladies. WOODEN SHOE BOOKS 508 S. Fifth St., 215-413-0999, woodenshoebooks.org. Attica (1980, U.S., 97 min.) A TV movie re-telling of the 1971 rebellion at Attica Correctional Facility. Prisoners took 38 guards hostage, demanding better conditions. Stubbornness from both prisoners and officials led to a violent end, with several guards killed in the process. Stars a post-Electric Company Morgan Freeman. With special guest speaker Ashanti Alston, a former member of the Black Panther Party and current member Black Liberation Army, who was incarcerated for a decade on charges of armed robbery. Presented by the National Jericho Movement, which seeks to free U.S. political prisoners. Sat., Sept. 13, 7:30 p.m., free.
