MilitiA
|
Geez. I'm having one of those nights where I can't open that bottle of my favorite nail polish. So, in a pink polish rage, I get to it: "Vengeance Is Mine" from the new Burn My Crosses CD sung by MilitiA with the band Swear on Your Life. In the first surging 10 seconds of MilitiA's earth-shaking voice, my stomach twists and I tear off the top of the polish bottle with my teeth, loosening a molar. So worth it! Available on DigStation for download now. Check out the Anime video of their song "Close to Life" on YouTube.
Treasure Island
|
Want an escapist fantasy you can't put down and a classic work of literature? You can have both! And even if you can't seem to find time for that vacation, this will take you to a breezy island. Rum-soaked mariners, pieces of eight, nautical jargon, Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island is the real pirate shit that everyone is ripping off these days. Be sure to get the version illustrated by Andrew Wyeth.
Disc golf
|
Disc golf's second-oldest course is right here in Philadelphia! The sport is similar in play to traditional golf. Eighteen metal "pole holes" are among the trees in Sedgley Woods; with a disc in hand, anyone can step onto the course and tee off. Better still, invest in different disc types (e.g. drivers, midrange discs, putters) and enjoy a variety of flight patterns. Some discs soar in the air, some stab the target. Ah, the sweet sound of success when the disc rings the chains of the pole hole. Rewarding! To start, grab the Frisbee from the attic and get out there.
Johnny "B" Place pizza
The other day at band practice, the five men of Mtn. High ordered their usual pizza pie from the local pizza shop Johnny "B" Place (the B is in quotation marks cuz it's the place to B) on Allegheny Avenue in Port Richmond. After crushing a few slices and downing a few six packs, we were off to a pool party in Jersey. Much to our surprise, there was a sobriety checkpoint a few hundred feet from our doorstep. We avoided this dangerous obstacle by loading up on gas and taking off in the opposite direction. "F-U, coppers!" we said, as we made our brilliant getaway.
