Deviled Leggs

Fri., Aug. 10, 9 p.m., Adventure Island

Generally speaking, trying to dance along at a Bowerbird show will earn you dirty looks from the intensely concentrating crowd at best, a severe sprain at worst. Hey, hips simply weren't built to move along with the sounds that come from metal being scraped and instruments being abused in ways not at all recommended in the instruction manual. But even the most minimal of laptop-blippers have groove things that need occasional shaking. Hence, from the tortuously pun-happy mind of bassist Evan Lipson comes Deviled Leggs, a "highly celebratory evening of revolutionary and experimental dance music." Invent a few steps on the spot along with Mincemeat or Tenspeed, Coqui, Mike Pride's iSHIT, Leprechaun Catering and Unisex Starship; then see how it's really done as Amnesiac Music & Dance and Club Lyfestile face off in a freestyle experimental dance battle. Let's see those Stomp the Yard kids keep up with this.

Fri., Aug. 10, 9 p.m., $5 donation, Adventure Island (see Bowerbird Web site for location info), www.bowerbird.org.
