Talk about poor timing. Philly punk supergroup Armalite was slated to play one of its ultra-rare shows back in March, when drummer Jeff Ziga went and crashed his bike. Twice. With his hand broken first and his collarbone second, the band was left unable to practice or gig. Thankfully there were no plans for Armalite Summer Tour '07, and its members instead focused on their myriad other projects. Guitarist-singer/former Package collaborator (and CP contributor) Atom Goren had his newborn second child to attend to; guitarist-singer (and PW contributor) Mike McKee kept busy recording with his current band Amateur Party (and reuniting his old band, Kill The Man Who Questions); and bassist Dan Yemin had Lifetime and Paint It Black on his plate. Now Ziga's off the DL and the show's been rescheduled, meaning we have another chance to pogo to the elated riffs and Mike Watt-ish energy of "Entitled" and "When Nice People Think Dumb Things, Attack, and Vote." Not many new songs have materialized since Armalite's awesome self-titled 2006 debut — "We mostly assemble into active duty only when we've got a show coming up," explains McKee — but the set will include a Crimpshrine cover, and precautions to make sure the guy behind the drum kit stays intact. McKee says Ziga will be wearing a bear-proof suit from now till showtime. "Obviously, we don't expect anything that goes wrong to be bear-related," he admits. "But for absorbing any kind of impact, it's the most durable outfit we could think of."
