Restaurants opening, closing and pending

>> NOW SEATING

Genmai Café
1149 N. Third St., 215-238-9214

This café, a recent sprout-off of Northern Liberties' Strengthening Health Institute, specializes in made-to-order macrobiotic food. "Genmai" is Japanese for brown rice, the super-beneficial base of the menu, which features noodles, sandwiches and wraps. As of now, they're open for lunch Tuesday through Thursday; more days and hours will be added as they get into the groove. Bite This: The "Southwest Scrambler" wrap's got tofu, tomato, onion, scallion, salsa and "Genmai guacamole."

>> WAITING LIST

Pei Wei Asian Diner
4040 City Ave.; 950 Baltimore Pike, Springfield

Pei Wei, the baby bro to P.F. Chang's first-born son, will make its first foray into the PA market this October with locations on City Avenue and in Springfield. It's a quick-type concept, with fresh-prepared dishes available at the counter or as takeout. The national chain's menu draws from Korean, Thai, Vietnamese and other time-tested Asian cuisines. Bite This: "Signature" flavor preparations include Mongolian and Mandarin kung pao paired with your choice of meat, seafood or tofu.

Philly Flavors
343 S. 13th St.

Damon Andreacchio, who owns and operates Fairmount's Philly Flavors (2004 Fairmount Ave., 215-232-7748), says he plans on opening this midtown sequel by the middle of the month. The new space will offer essentially the same goodies — homemade ice cream, yogurt, water ice, sundaes, shakes and all the rest. Andreacchio, a 16-year vet of the business, says expansion was a logical step after more than five successful years up by the museum. "There's a ton of Rita's out there," he says of the competition. We noticed that, too. Hope to see you soon.

>> LITTLE VITTLES

G-Ho's Pico de Gallo (1501 South St., 215-772-3003) now has a liquor license — they're doing margaritas by the pitcher and glass, Mexican beer and some wine. >> The long-awaited second location of Tria (1137 Spruce St.) is finally open for biz. To mark the occasion, wine director Michael McCaulley has introduced Makana Iqhilika, a South African mead, onto the menu. Insert Beowulf joke here.
