Heitzman, a recent graduate of Tyler's MFA program, constructs sculptures made mostly of wood and twine. They look like the ruins of ships, the skeletons of collapsed buildings and, frequently, the edifices of unknown civilizations  which may be why the show takes its title from a quote by 19th-century explorer and diplomat John Lloyd Stevens, upon rediscovering the remains of the Mayans: "It lay before us like a shattered bark in the midst of the ocean."

Sherry Kramer's autobiographical one-woman play winds its way among three threads of narration  on the death of her mother, Barbie dolls and the Middle East  and connects them with sly wit. During the evening, she offers a sensible explanation for Barbie's scandalous measurements.
This 50-year retrospective spotlights Philadelphian Thomas Chimes with roughly 100 pieces, some previously unseen. Notable works include landscapes on cloth (pictured), panel portraits of 19th- and 20-century artists and writers, white-on-white paintings and aluminum sheets painted with wordplay like "master(bation)" and "own(anism)."
