Kingdom of Magical Extinctions Food Show

Sun., April 1, 6 p.m., $5

Space 1026's Caitlin Perkins really hopes the mermaid will be close to life-size. By "the mermaid," she means her mock mermaid potluck dish. The 1026 collective is hosting the Kingdom of Magical Extinctions, a food art show to raise money for the creation of next year's Space 1026 comic Mummers brigade (The Vaudevillains). The Magical Extinctions idea came to the '26ers while eating veggie take-out during the Super Bowl. "Somebody asked, 'Why does it always have to be mock chicken' on the menu?" explains Perkins. "Why can't it be mock unicorn?" The event will feature more than 20 inventive mock dishes, featuring everything from Muppets to cartoons to mystical creatures. Sample some Bigfoot fingers or deep-fried fairy wings, and wash them down with Big Bird bathwater cocktails. If you're not into veggies, there'll also be mock vegetable dishes made entirely of meat. Attendees are encouraged to dress festively and bring their own booze. If you'd like to make your own dish, contact Perkins ASAP. Space 1026, 1026 Arch St., 215-574-7630, cperkins@space1026.com.

Cooking with Isla Ibiza

Tue., April 3, 7-9 p.m., $65

As executive chef at Cuba Libre and Isla Ibiza, Guillermo Veloso knows a thing or two about Latin flavor. At this cooking demo, DIY foodies can explore Spanish fare beyond the typical tapas. Learn how to prepare traditional Spanish dishes like bacalao (salt cod) croquettes, caldo gallego (Galician stew) and raxo, a paprika- and garlic-smoked pork tenderloin. "My dad was from the Northwest region of Spain," says Veloso, "so I always grew up eating Spanish food." Reservations required. Dilworthtown Inn, 1390 Old Wilmington Pike, West Chester, 610-399-1390.

Philly Zombie Crawl

Sun., April 8, 8 p.m.-2 a.m.

For some, Easter Sunday evokes images of creepy pink bunnies, overdressed family gatherings and inexplicably addictive Peeps. Now, thanks to the efforts of the Tattooed Mom crew, Easter Sunday also means roaming packs of inebriated zombies. The Philly Zombie Crawl celebrates the original zombie's resurrection with a makeup and pregame session at Mom's, followed by a trip to Manny Brown's and a final stop at Fluid, where there'll be a costume contest and prize giveaway. For the man who taught us to treat others as we want to be treated — we'd pretty much all drink/eat brains to that. Tattooed Mom, 530 South St., 215-238-9880.

City Tavern Easter Meals

Sun., April 8, 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. brunch, $24.95-$29.95; 4 p.m.-closing dinner, $29.95-$44.95

If you're more of a daytime diner than a zombie crawler, this Easter meal will still provide some quality costume visuals. City Tavern, the Philly institution known for its Benny Frank theme, offers a prix fixe brunch and dinner — neither of which will end with a CVS counter Cadbury Egg dessert. Choose from brunch selections like turkey hash, grilled vegetable Napoleon and glazed Virginia baked ham, or fill up with dinner options like roasted duckling, fillet of salmon and roasted leg of lamb. Reservations required. City Tavern, 138 S. Second St., 215-413-1443.
